Liverpool can get one step closer to claiming their first title under Arne Slot with a victory over Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
After only dropping points in two matches cross all completions in the first four months of the 2024–25 season, Liverpool have already started twice in December. The Reds only managed draws against Newcastle United and Fulham in the Premier League, allowing Chelsea to put the pressure on Slot’s men atop the table.
For the second time in less than a month, Liverpool make the long trip down to St. Mary’s to face Southampton. The Saints produced one of their better performance of a torrid season thus far against the Reds in late November, but self-inflicted mistake considered the Premier League leaders escaped with a 3-2 victory.
Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konaté and Konstantinos Tsimikas will miss the trip to St. Mary’s Stadium due to injury. Diogo Jota remains a double after suffering a setback at the weekend. Slot will also be unable to call on Andy Robertson; the left back was sent off against Fulham and will serve his one-game suspension on Wednesday. There’s bound to be some rotation from Saturday’s XI, with Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa among the players in reference to come into Slot’s team.
Liverpool predicated lineup vs Southampton (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Gomez; Endo, Morton; Chiesa, Elliott, Gakpo; Nunez.
