Ruben Amorim has told Marcus Rashford that he wants to stay at Manchester United.
Rashford has suggested he is ready to leave and continue “new competition” after 20 consecutive years at the club.
Amorim, however, insisted the 27-year-old could find the competition at Old Trafford as he wanted to bring United back to the top of European football.
“We have a new challenge here,” Amorim said at a press conference.
“It’s difficult. For me it is the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation, and I have already said that this is one of the biggest teams in the world. This is really a new and biggest challenge. I really hope all my players are ready for this new challenge.”
Rashford’s comments came just days after he was left out of the team’s 2-1 derby win over Manchester City.
Amorim revealed he has yet to speak to the England striker, who was given a day off on Tuesday and will decide after training on Wednesday whether he will be part of the group traveling to London for the Carabao Cup quarter-final. playing Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.
Alejandro Garnacho has also been left out of the Etihad squad but is set to face Spurs after training on Sunday and Monday.
“It’s the same situation with all the other players,” said Amorim.
“If they train well then I have to make a choice. We will see the end of training.
“I want the best of each of them [players] and that’s the most important point for me. I just want to win and help the team get better.
“I’m fine with Marcus Rashford, that’s easy, and we’ll try different things to push Marcus to the best he’s shown before.
“This type of club requires great quality and is a great talent, so he only needs to perform at the highest level, and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”
